For Immediate Release October 3, 2008 2008 Longs Drugs Challenge Boasts Another Strong Field. Final Field Includes 6 of Top 7 on LPGA Money List DANVILLE, Calif. – The Longs Drugs Challenge today announced the final field list for the 2008 tournament. This year marks another strong field for one of the favorite stops on the LPGA Tour as 22 of the Top 30 players on the Official LPGA Money List will compete, including six of the top seven. Highlighting the field is the #1-ranked women’s golfer in the world and this year’s leading money winner, Lorena Ochoa. Other notable players from the Top Ten on the money list are #3 ranked and Pleasanton native Paula Creamer, #5 ranked and 2002 Longs Drugs Challenge champion Helen Alfredsson, and #10 ranked defending champion Suzann Pettersen. In addition, the tournament has three of the 2008 LPGA Major winners in Ochoa (Kraft Nabisco), Yani Tseng (McDonald’s LPGA Championship) and Inbee Park (U.S. Women’s Open), and also has 10 of the 15 winners on tour this season. “We are extremely excited to once again have this caliber of competition playing at the Longs Drugs Challenge,” said Tournament Director Brian Flajole. "Anytime you have the world's best player in a sport, as we do with Lorena, it makes for a big time event. This tournament has a history of bringing out the best on the LPGA Tour and this year is no exception. This is a testament to the great relationship between the tournament, our title sponsor Longs Drugs, Blackhawk Country Club and the East Bay Area. Everyone has worked extremely hard to promote this level of golf excellence for the players, volunteers and fans.” One of the favorite stops of the players on the LPGA Tour, the 2008 Longs Drugs Challenge will take place at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville, California the week of October 9-12. The picturesque course will be the backdrop as 108 players take aim at a purse of $1.2 million over the four-round event. This is the third year the event has been held in the Bay-Area. The event boasts a prestigious list of winners including San Jose’s Christina Kim, winner in 2004, and two-time champion and LPGA Hall of Famer Juli Inkster. Tickets for the 2008 Longs Drugs Challenge are available now. Single-day passes for any of the four tournament rounds are $20 each. In addition, a $5 discount coupon may be obtained at select Bay Area-Longs Drugs outlets. All-Tournament Clubhouse badges are available for $100 and All-Tournament Grounds passes are available for $50.
